Group Work and Rhetoric

Most of our rhetoric has actually been through Twitter. Leah and I conversed heavily via tweets because between projects and tests and classes, we only had a few minutes of time to speak person to person. Although many people would argue this type of communication is detrimental, I’d argue it actually hones our rhetorical skills. What can be more challenging than getting a point across in less than 140 characters? By using social media such as this, and text messaging that is effectively limited to 160 characters, I think that this generation is getting very good at conveying messages in very few words. I will concede that it has resulted in rather lax grammar and an increase in slang and even has led to the development of an entirely different texting/social media language.

I think we will continue to use these forms of rhetoric as we collaborate for this final project. However, I would like to have more time to speak in person. While it is nice to have the ability to work between work, sometimes it is most effective to simply sit down and bust something out. Like I’ve been doing with my current seminar presentation. So, group, let us get together soon. I’ll book a study room in the Atherton lower lobby and we can figure this project out.
